There is some downside, however: it’s not “anyone who wants a Slurpee gets one” day. It’s actually “free Slurpees while they last” day.
Per USA Today, the chain will give away 5,000,000 Slurpees today, which is the approximate equivalent of 1,000 per store. Free Slurpee Lesson No. 1: If you want yours, you should go get it now; squirrel, nut, etc.
“Slurpee drinkers are some of the most loyal fans we have,” VP of Marketing Nancy Smith says. “They come here to have fun.”
They also come in to buy a bunch of other merch — last year when they did the free slurpee thing, sales went up 38 percent on the day.
And so: Free Slurpee Day Lesson No. 1: Don’t buy anything else when you go in. Otherwise you’re a sucker, sucker.
